on life, you know it's a great song. And that's definitely one of my favorites. If you
haven't heard it, go buy it.

lovehandles.
MTVRock: BadAd800 asks: how did you get in mtv? CarsonChat: I was radio DJ at KROQ in LA. It was my dream job at the time. But i
was 23 and there was nowhere else to go in radio unless I wanted to get into
management which sucks. so MTV asked me to work parttime at their beachhouse in
California. I did, and liked it. And then they offered me a full time job and a move to
NY. I hope that it would open up a whole new career for me since I had "maxed-out" in
radio. And it kept me close to the music

can find it at a dive bar near you.

line for any ride, you don't have to pay for churros, and the smell of fresh candy is

MTVRock: SpoiledLB asks: Carson? what was it like inteviewing KoRn or Limp
Bizkit? CarsonChat: Korn when I first met them were an angry band in 95. Alt Radio wasn't
playing blind, nor was MTV. They had no support. and weren't very happy. But -----
finally they broke and pretty much shoved it up the butt of everybody that ignored
them. and now they have real power and i think they're much happier. I'll tell you about
Limp Bizkit next year.
MTVRock: Puppyds asks: have you been on other shows or were you not into acting
or MTV before MTV discovered you CarsonChat: No, not at all. I have a negative taste in my mouth for the acting
community. I went to a school in LA where every 15-18 yr old at my school was going
to be a model or an actor. But didnt feel like they needed to work for it. SPOILED - i
say. Secretly I wanted to be successful - but i wanted to earn it.

the guitar? CarsonChat: Yes, I will be making music soon. It's a hidden passion of mine. and
NO, you will never ever ever have to hear it.

while at Summer Share in Seaside.......besides playing basketball from your visiting
roomate from NY? CarsonChat: I just talked on the phone to my family & friends in Cal. Hung out with
some of the MTV crew who were all staying in the same motel as me. BBQ. and
traveled to NY for other MTV jobs I had to do. A lot of commuting.
MTVRock: KCRene asks: Do you like Jesse..sometimes he seems annoying? CarsonChat: Everybody asks me the same thing about Jesse. Is he like that in real
life? The good news is, yes he is. He's not fooling any of you.. The bad news is, he's
got a very left of center personality and short attention span that does make it difficult
to conduct what I would like to be productive live television.
MTVRock: Neato1113 asks: YO! Carson,you host Total Request where WE vote, but
what is your all-time favorite video?? CarsonChat: Even though this is not my all-time favorite video, it's one that I think
should have been played more than it was. And it wasn't one of those eg-maniac
videos with the artist's face. wax (California). if you haven't seen it, Spike Jonze
directed it and a man is on fire running down the street chasing a bus. The whole thing
was shot in real-time,, which was like 8 seconds or whatever and then they stretched
it out to the length of the song, which was like 2 minutes. Killer video.

Remember Dani and I? I was wondering who your fav "Buzzworthiest" artist is? CarsonChat: Hanson, because buzzworthy means MTV is predicting that the act will
be huge before they're huge. everybody thought Hanson was just a lame act until the
cool music community, MTV included, understood that the Dust Brothers produced
the track MMMBop, and Presto, You've got yourself a cool act. and Hanson attracted
more people to our Times Square studio than Marilyn Manson and 'N Sync combined.
I didn't invite any of them.
MTVRock: Clumsy789x asks: How do you think that MTV can be improved?? What
would you do about it CarsonChat: I would say 2 things to make MTV Better. 1) real real real , MTV should
never underestimate the viewer. anything fake nowadays, a personality, a show
concept, a band is lame. but if something's real, if an event happens on MTV good or
bad... God bless the real factor. and I don't want to watch models read Cue cards and
act like they know about how much Billy Corgan influenced the new Hole record when
they simply have no clue.
MTVRock: NycAd321 asks: I'm one of your biggest fans! I watch TRL everyday and I
think your so great! You're so great and down to earth! I wish more guys were like you!
I was just wondering how people can get into the TRL studio to see the live
performances?!? CarsonChat: a lot of people think you need to get tickets to get into TRL when there's
a performance. Not true. we usually select about 50-80 people who are big fans of the
act coming in. In an effort to create a big audience. Most of them know when their
favorite bands will be performing and contact us and convince us that they should be
there. That generally makes up our studio audience. Some people even fly from other
countries.
MTVRock: K3140 asks: Do you ever get nervous before meeting certain guests or
before doing a show? CarsonChat: If you don't get nervous, it means you don't care. I don't get nervous
about the guest that's coming on because they're just people too. I could care less
about celebrity status. I get nervous cause I'm about to go on national TV and people
have the assumption that I am 100% prepared, confident, and know exactly what it is
i'm doing. When in reality, I don't. and when the camera goes on, i just pretend like I'm
talking to a room full of my friends.
MTVRock: BNAngel44 asks: Carson what was the craziest thing that happened in
seaside heights while you were there? and did you like filiming there?~love ya~Kelley CarsonChat: My hotel room getting broken into 3 times. And that's not to say I had
girls chasing me, It's not to say I'm some Idol, it's more testimony to the spring break
like partying that the small community was doing in the summer. and they weren't
mean to me. in fact they stole my clothes and wrote me a note. It said we think you're
cool, thanks for your clothes. If you want to party with us, we're at the pool 2 hotels
over. Plus they think when they find me, that i'm gonna be 24 hours a day partying
with Lenny Kravitz, Manson, Courtney, Billy Joe, and the Bald guy from Prodigy. It's
just not true. I'm usually watching ESPN Sportscenter
MTVRock: KubrickB asks: I've asked this to all the famous people I meet or have a
chance to talk to . I think its a good jugde of character. " If you could sit down and
have dinner with any three people throught history, who would it be and why?" CarsonChat: Jesus Christ, that way I'd know there'd be wine at the dinner. Gengis
Kahn, that way I'd know there'd be plenty of meat at the dinner. And my mom, that
way I know someone would do the dishes.
MTVRock: WaC E 1285 asks: Carson Will U Marry Me? Carsonchat: It's gonna take a lot more than that honey. People are like CarsonChat: people are like pizzas. Looks, One slice, Personality - another slice,
Morality, probably a big slice. I wouldn't marry you unless you were the tastiest slice
by slice pizza ever created by a fat Italian.

MTVRock: Fran12985 asks: Who do you admire most in the world? CarsonChat: I don't admire any one person the most, because if i've heard of them
doesn't necessarily mean i should admire them. publically speaking. I admire the
people who you never really hear about . People who don't bitch and write the Whoa is
me commentary in the paper. Like single mothers with multiple kids, working 3 jobs,
not totally broke but whose life is pretty rough. And even though that's their reality
they're still thankful genuinely and work hard but ask for nothing in return. it's basically
an invisible group of people that I admire.
MTVRock: BA 815 asks: what was your favorite interview you've done? CarsonChat: Here's a list of favorites: Bill Murray, Mariilyn Manson, Gary Oldman,
Usually the non-music people cause I didn't feel like i was hired to interview them. So
if i screwed it up, who could get mad? It's MTV, Not E! so I had a lot of fun with those.
and most of the bands that have come in, have really been cool.
MTVRock: Petranite has the last question....Who is the best new band of 1998 CarsonChat: Kid Rock from Detroit. His real name is Bob. He was a DJ now he has a
band. He's down to earth, but a star at the same time. His CD is called "Devil Without
A Cause" It's got heavy metal/rap fusion, country ballad, Phat Beats, great hooks, but
you can listen to it from beginning to end and if nothing else, appreciate the fact that
here's a guy who's taking music to another level. Even if I didn't like it, I'd be stoked to
hear more CDs like that.
